Handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine
The instantly legendary AMG biturbo V8 heart beats even stronger in the SL 63. Output reaches a breathtaking 577 hp, 590 lb-ft of torque, and a 196-mph top track speed. Twin-scroll turbos with low-friction bearings are located in the engine’s “hot V” for virtually-lag-free boost. SL-specific enhancements include active crankcase ventilation, repositioned intercoolers and higher boost. Yet even with its advanced technologies, each AMG engine is still hand-built and signed by its own craftsman.
AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G 9-speed transmission
The 9-speed multiclutch transmission’s AMG SPEEDSHIFT® MCT technology shortens shift times and offers quick multi-gear downshifts. A wet startup clutch eliminates the torque converter, improving performance and, along with a magnesium casing, saving weight. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT Sport, Sport+ and RACE programs, as well as a selectable Manual mode, progressively quicken upshifts and rev-match downshifts, while Comfort mode can decouple the driveline to save fuel when coasting.
AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive
The first SL with all-wheel drive, its 4MATIC® system can instantly vary the front-to-rear torque split in precise response to driving conditions and driver inputs, including 100% rear-wheel drive. An electromechanical coupling between the front and rear axles is controlled based on an elaborate matrix of driving mode, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and available grip to optimize handling and acceleration right up to the physical limits, on virtually any road or track surface.
AMG electronic limited-slip rear differential
The limited-slip differential’s electronic control can lock the differential with greater precision and speed, based on the changing driving demands as you corner, accelerate and brake. Dynamic variable locking also allows higher cornering speeds at the limit, adapting to road-surface friction, lateral forces and other driving conditions as they as are experienced.
A tradition of advanced design
Sporting in nature has always met elegance in motion in the SL’s design, and few cars earn the term “iconic” so authentically. Reinvented for a new age, its stance is wide and low, with LED headlamps sweeping back from its vertical-bar grille into a power-dome hood and boldly flared fenders. Past the long wheelbase, the rear of the car completes the effect with tapering taillamps and an active spoiler. Top up or down, it’s a sports car that lets you drink in the sun while it devours the road.
Hyper-analog cockpit
The SL cockpit pays tribute to its heritage by pushing cockpit design boldly forward. With 2+2 seating and rich materials, its design rewards the eye, the touch, and every driving experience. Sculptural seats, advanced displays that include an angle-adjusting central touchscreen, and a console whose shape echoes a NACA duct, all team up to unite car and driver. The SL expresses a purist feel in a digital world, an approach called “hyper-analog” that’s designed to connect with your senses.
AMG Night Package
Jet-black elements accentuate the bold style of the SL. The front splitter, side sill inserts, side-mirror covers, and rear diffuser trim are all finished in gloss black. Black chrome tailpipes complete the transformation.
AMG Extended Night Package
The visual impact of the AMG Night Package is further intensified with the addition of a dark-tinted grille, black badges, and darkened headlamp and taillamp treatments.
Composite aluminum spaceframe architecture
An entirely new 2+2 vehicle architecture was developed for the SL. Featuring a self-supporting spaceframe, the composite aluminum structure’s high torsional, transverse and longitudinal rigidity enhance handling precision, comfort and safety. Material cross-sections and component shapes optimize strength as well as vehicle packaging, strategically complementing the aluminum with magnesium, fiber composites and steel. Asserting the “L” in SL, the lightweight body shell weighs less than 600 lbs.
Car-to-X Communication
In the future, cars will be able to communicate with each other over the airwaves. In the SL, the future starts today. Vehicles with industry-leading Car-to-X Communication can automatically alert a central notification system of certain dangers, from detected wheelspin to the use of hazard flashers or even windshield wipers. The system can then alert you or other drivers with Car-to-X via in-dash displays, allowing precautions to be taken before reaching the hazard.
Active Brake Assist
Radar-based technology can alert you if you’re approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as you start to brake, it can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, it can also initiate braking automatically at a range of driving speeds. The system can also detect and react to crossing pedestrians at typical city speeds.
Crosswind Assist
Interpreting information that is continually supplied by the car’s Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), electric power steering and suspension sensors, Crosswind Assist can help detect the effects of strong side winds on the vehicle’s handling stability at highway speeds. Whether caused by lateral gusts or even a passing truck, the system can help keep the car on course via strategic braking of the wheels on one side of the vehicle.
Power front seats with memory
Power front seats feature intuitive, seat-shaped controls on the door. To set and save your ideal driving position, a memory system for each front seat recalls three stored positions for the seat, plus the positions of the 4-way power steering column and side mirrors for the driver. Standard heating with automatic timed step-down adds soothing, controlled comfort in cool weather.
Heated and ventilated front seats
Ventilated seats are a luxury you’ll soon consider a necessity. Three levels of heating and cooling ventilation are offered. By gently circulating air through perforations in the seat and backrest, the ventilated seats help keep you cooler and your clothes drier during warmer months. On cold or damp days, using both the ventilation and heating features together can circulate the seat heating more quickly, to help keep you warm and dry.
Active multicontour front seats with massage
Pneumatically adjustable lumbar, side and shoulder supports offer custom-tailored comfort. A range of massage programs can soothe and rejuvenate your back and shoulders, including a spa-like “hot stone” massage, plus an “active workout” program to help strengthen your back and leg muscles.
Dual rear seats
The 2+2 cockpit configuration offers the added practicality of twin rear seats suitable for two small passengers. Top tethers and anchors for child seats are included as well.
Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)
A breakthrough in automobile cockpit control, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience is further enhanced in the SL. MBUX integrates digital in-dash displays including a touchscreen, touch-sensitive controls, Bluetooth® hands-free and audio streaming, and an industry-advancing voice control system that responds to your everyday speaking voice and phrasing of commands. You can set up multiple user profiles of favored settings, and groups of settings can be saved as themes or moods.
12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
A reconfigurable digital instrument cluster is set into a classically inspired three-dimensional visor. You can select any of four AMG-design instrumentation styles: Modern Classic, Sporty, Discreet and Supersport. Supersport can show extensive performance info, including a racing-inspired upshift prompt for the manual shift mode. Other data can include a warm-up menu, graphical G-force meter, and key engine info including hp/torque output and fluid temperatures.
Adjustable 11.9-inch touchscreen central multimedia display
The large, portrait-oriented 11.9-inch central touchscreen offers more easily visible readouts, navigation maps, and illustrated and animated menus. Its inclination can be power-adjusted from 12 to 32 degrees for optimal viewing, even top-down. An advanced menu concept can display multiple functions at once, and keep often-used features such as climate control readily accessible. In addition, you can access the screen via the right Touch Control Button on the steering wheel.

Innovative Touch Controls elevate the multifunction steering wheel to an unparalleled level of user-friendliness. Finger-sensitive buttons access features like audio, Bluetooth® and cruise control. Four smartphone-like pads offer direct control of countless cockpit features. The upper touchpads operate the menu screen in the gauge cluster or the central multimedia display. Larger, lower touchpads let you vary your cruising speed or adjust the audio volume, all with your hands on the wheel.
