Mercedes has been spotted at the Nürburgring once again, where they have been testing their 2024 AMG-ONE. Now, what's the big deal about a car that was introduced 7 years ago, and that started production almost two years ago now? Well, we cannot say for sure, but the online community believes that AMG could be pushing for a new, sub-6:30-minute lap time. It is a well-known claim that the original AMG-ONE lap test was in suboptimal conditions. However, just as easily, Mercedes could be testing out an improvement that they want to add to the car. A deep maroon Mercedes AMG-ONE hypercar was spotted testing at the Nürburgring, sparking speculation about a potential new lap record attempt or upgrades to the vehicle. It remains to be seen. However, as of late, more and more videos of the AMG-ONE are surfacing at the Nürburgring, prompting speculation about the cause behind these tests. Now, this Friday, the AMG-ONE that was testing at the Nürburgring was a deep maroon, which was not used before. In the video that surfaced online, many viewers were quick to note that the exhaust note sounds slightly different, which gave rise to further speculation about possible changes. However, we believe that the slightly muted exhaust note could be because this particular production-ONE was following EU emissions regulations. As part of those regulations, Mercedes would have had to fit this maroon ONE with a catalytic converter in addition to an OPF Filter and a muffler. All three of these things individually would change the sound of the exhaust, and certainly more so when used in conjunction with each other. On the secondary market, AMG-ones often make a very large profit. Mercedes originally sold their ONE at $2.75 million, but now the going rate is much higher. Some AMG-ONE cars have even been sold at double the sticker price at launch. As for the question about whether the price is justified or not — we'll leave that one up to you. After all, it is, at the root of it, a road-legal F-1 car, and that's not an exaggeration. It is 1,063 of the purest horsepower of any car you'll have seen, with four electric motors to supplement that. One of the four motors is placed near the turbocharger, two on the front axle, and one on the rear. In addition, the ONE has a carbon-fiber chassis that further streamlines weight, and allows for better torsion and rigidity. Also, the ONE comes with the KERS energy recovery system that is also trickle-down tech from the AMG Formula-1 team. But what are the real-world applications of those numbers and tech? Surely you couldn't use all that horsepower on the street, right? Well, this Nürburgring test comes shortly after another AMG-ONE was spotted going 347 mph on the Autobahn. So, we guess that having an F-1 engine and tech does in fact, translate to higher top speeds on the road.
