What Makes The Tourbillion Special The Tourbillon is the latest engineering Marvel from France’s Finest Car Maker, Bugatti. The long-awaited successor to the Chiron, this $4.1 million monster looks to maintain Bugatti’s standards of building the world’s fastest production car. Bugatti’s CEO, Mate Rimac, has plans for this car to break the 300mph barrier. To do this dozens of proposed designs were rejected until the sleek, aerodynamically proficient shape was finalised. The enormous front grill, carbon-fibre tub chassis, active rear diffuser and rear spoiler reduce drag as the speed increases. And as one would expect, there’s a lot of speed due to the monstrously powerful new hybrid setup. Primarily powering the Tourbillon is a brand new Cosworth Developed 8.4L Naturally Aspirated V16 which produces 986 horsepower via an 8-speed dual clutch. This unit is directly paired to three electric motors engineered by Rimac that combined produce 789 horsepower. Put all this together and you have 1775 horsepower, 277mph, all-wheel drive, carbon fibre constructed bullet that’s predicted 0-62mph in 2 seconds and that produces 1180 lb-ft of torque. It is so fast it makes a Ferrari 296 look like a steam train. Yet it has a range of 37 miles. However, inside the interior is composed of leather, carbon fibre and such exquisite metals. It’s no secret Bugatti plans on building 250 Tourbillons each at $4.1 million. However, what if you’re the type of chap who’s so insecure you can’t bear to think an Arab-rich oil tycoon would have the same Tourbillon as you, for those who want to stand out from the rest? Bugatti now have a solution. The Équipe Pur Sang Package: Exterior Analysed It’s called the Équipe Pur Sang package translated to "Thoroughbred Team," and supposedly is a homage to Bugatti’s history in racing. This is seen through the bespoke design cues scattered around the exterior and interior. But alongside this package sees new lightweight materials that assist in improving the Tourbillon’s aerodynamics. There’s a new front splitter to enhance downforce, a new rear diffuser to maximise airflow, small end plates on the rear wing to ensure maximum grip and go and new directional 20 inch tyres at the front combined with 21-inch tyres at the rear. Not only do they improve cooling by increasing airflow to the rear radiator by 8% but they look visually striking. The most notable styling feature of the Équipe Pur Sang is its bespoke eight exhaust pipes. Considering most hybrids want to silence their engines, this eight exhaust clearly shows Bugatti wants their customers to hear every roar and rumble of the all-new high-revving V16. Most of the interior is finished in full Alcantara upholstery, including the Performance oriented seats, and there is a custom embroidery on the dashboard and headrests, to honour Bugatti’s history. In addition, there’s an optional medium carbon fibre package. To really enhance the experience, the lucky 250 Tourbillon customers, should they tick the Équipe Pur Sang option, will be invited down to the Château Saint Jean in Molsheim or at select Bugatti retail locations worldwide. During the configuration process, they can choose from, 23 new exterior colours, 20 leather options, 10 Alcantara finishes and 7 carpet colours. Pricing and Exclusivity Of course, the Équipe Pur Sang option is quite costly. In fact, at $300,000, it costs more than an entire Ferrari 296. It seems like a rip-off, but then you have to consider the type of client who will buy this masterpiece. He’ll probably have 10 296s, 5 Revueltos, 3 W1s, 2 HondaJets, and one Fairline Squadron 78. $300,000 on making his Tourbillon more unique than his Saudi Arabian Rival is frankly a bargain.
