AC Cars is set to unveil the electric version of its iconic Ace sports car at the 2024 SEMA show in Las Vegas. Teaming up with Tremec Electric GT, the UK’s oldest surviving carmaker will introduce the Ace Classic Electric, a modern tribute to the 1953-1963 era Ace that supplied the chassis for the original Shelby Cobra. Alongside this model, the company will also present the Ace Bristol Classic Electric, featuring its distinct “smiling face” design. Preserving Original Proportions with Modern UpdatesThe AC Ace Classic Electric’s design brings together vintage charm and modern materials. Its carbon fiber bodywork, crafted using original drawings and historic cars, retains the proportions of the original Ace while incorporating subtle updates. These include graceful rolling flanks and rounded wheel arches, replacing the flat-sided look of the 1953-1963 model. Up front, the Ace Classic Electric features the slimmer grille seen on later versions of the Ace, while the Ace Bristol Classic Electric retains the larger grille used on earlier models. Both cars ride on wire wheels and feature classic brightwork, preserving their retro aesthetic. Despite the nostalgic exterior, the roadster embraces modern technology with LED headlights and circular daytime running lights. Inside, the minimalist cabin features a wood-rimmed steering wheel, traditional gauges from Speedhut, and a rotary shifter. Unlike the larger AC Cobra GT Roadster, which was resized to accommodate taller drivers, the Ace Classic Electric sticks closely to the original dimensions. Electric Version Delivers Over 300 HP, 200 Miles of RangeThe Ace Classic Electric is equipped with Tremec’s eGT413 Modular EV powertrain, featuring a 302 hp electric motor and a 72 kWh battery pack. AC Cars estimates a driving range of more than 200 miles on a full charge, with support for DC fast charging to reduce downtime. While details on the transmission are yet to be confirmed, EVs typically use direct-drive systems. Weighing in at under 2,500 pounds, the electric model is remarkably close to the gas-powered versions, which weigh around 2,425 pounds despite their Ford-sourced 2.0-liter turbo-4 engines. The gasoline versions produce 300 hp and come equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, offering drivers a traditional, hands-on experience. Regardless of powertrain, all models feature rear-wheel drive to maintain the dynamic handling for which the Ace is known. Limited Availability with US Deliveries Set for 2025Reservations for the Ace Classic Electric are now open, with US pricing starting at $275,000 before taxes and extras. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2025, but only a limited number of units will be available in the US, all with left-hand drive. American models will be shipped partially assembled, with the electric powertrain installed at Tremec’s facility in North America. Development and production of the Ace Classic Electric are being handled by AC Cars Classics, a dedicated division that oversees all of the company’s classic car programs. Buyers will also have the option of right-hand drive for other markets, such as the UK, where the estimated price is £211,000. Each model will be fully road-registered and come with an official chassis number.
