Batur Convertible: The Limited Edition finale to the legendary W12 Celebrates Bentley’s W12 Legacy Several engines within the Volkswagen group have innovated over the past decade. Lamborghini’s 5.2l V10, Bugatti’s 8.0l Quad-Turbo W16 and of course Bentley’s 6.0l twin-turbo W12. Designed using two Volkswagen VR6 engines, this latter unit was a marvel of silence, power and torque for Bentley for over 21 years. Until, like with its aforementioned cousins, it was dropped due to the ever-stringent emission regulations. But as a suitable send-off, Bentley built the limited run, $2.2 million Batur, the most powerful and fastest Bentley to use the iconic W12. To highlight this as the swansong, they tweaked the W12 to deliver 750 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. The result of that was 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 209mph. Production was limited to 18 coupes at first and then 16 convertibles. But it’s not the speed or exclusivity that impresses most with this car, it’s the design. The Batur is fully created by Mulliner, who offers an extensive range of colours, finishes, and materials for both the interior and exterior. The interior trim, in particular, impresses most with an endless array of materials, including wood veneers, carbon fibre, and precious metals, creating one of the best interiors of any car. The Design of this particular Batur: Set to be Unveiled in Monterrey The Batur you see above is, in fact, the first Batur available. Its exterior is finished in what Bentley calls shimmering Opalite, a pale silver with subtle violet undertones. The bodywork also features a bold Beluga racing stripe coupled with Mandarin pinstripes. The front grille features a gloss Beluga matrix alongside Mandarin accents as well as the same black and orange palette. Inside, the interior follows a One plus One distinct design. The driver’s side features a Beluga’s black hide, Alcantara, stitched with Mandarin and Linen accents. The passenger side features a Linen hide with Mandarin contrast stitching. It also features a Beluga-trimmed steering wheel with Mandarin cross-stitching, titanium organ stops, and illuminated sill plates bearing the Batur nameplate. Bentley has also fitted a bespoke luggage set. One bag in Beluga, one in Linen to enhance that dual personality of this Batur. This masterpiece is due to make its debut at Monterrey Car Week in Los Angeles, where it will certainly steal the show. The Batur is undoubtedly a masterpiece, an elevated flair of style and power.
