Valentino Rossi just turned 46, and BMW is celebrating in style. To honor the nine-time world champion, the German carmaker is releasing the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46. You’ve got two choices: Sport or Style. The Sport version comes in Marina Bay Blue metallic with a huge “46” in Tanzanite Blue metallic on both sides. The Style version goes for a more subtle look with matt Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic. The “46” is in Frozen Marina Bay Blue metallic. But it’s the yellow accents that steal the show. They’re a tribute to Rossi’s iconic color scheme. You’ll find them on the BMW M kidney grille, a single V spoke on the M light-alloy wheels (a nod to racing practicality as it marks the tyre valve position), and on the brake callipers with the M logo. The Sport variant even gets a yellow stripe over the door frames. The roof is made from carbon-fiber and painted by hand. And it doesn’t just stop at being lightweight and stylish. It’s got a bold yellow VR46 logo and Rossi’s signature. The tailgate keeps up with matching VR46 lettering. Inside, the cabin is mostly Night Blue with yellow accents popping up just enough to keep things interesting. The M Carbon bucket seats are wrapped in Black/Night Blue Merino leather, and the Alcantara shoulder area comes in Sao Paulo Yellow. The VR46 logo is stitched onto the head restraints and door sill trims. Even the steering wheel is wrapped in M Alcantara with yellow contrast stitching and a yellow center marker. The carbon-fiber center console has a badge reading “1/46,” reminding you just how exclusive this car is. Performance and Chassis Tuning with Rossi’s Touch The BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 sticks with the same engine as the standard M4 CS—a twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six making 543 horsepower. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. This setup rockets the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, and it can hit 124 mph in 11.1 seconds. Since 2023, he’s been competing as a BMW Motorsport works driver, taking on events like the GT World Challenge Europe and the FIA World Endurance Championship. Half of them will be painted in Marina Bay Blue Metallic, and the other half in Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic. If you’re in the US, good luck—only a “limited number” will be available stateside. At $155,000 (before destination charges), it’s the most expensive M4-badged car ever. That’s $31,500 more than the regular M4 CS, which was limited to 1,700 units. It’s also $15,100 pricier than the hardcore M4 CSL, known for its two-seater track-focused design. For some perspective, the M4 CS Edition VR46 is about three times more expensive than the base 430i in the 4 Series lineup. This makes it the priciest M4 ever, but it’s not the most expensive car linked to the M4. That title belongs to the 3.0 CSL, of which only 50 units were made. Official pricing was never revealed, but it was reportedly around $750,000. It wasn’t homologated for the US. The M4 CS Edition VR46 also shares a bit of legacy with another rare BMW—the M3 GTR Strassenversion from the E46 days. Only 10 of those were made, each selling for €250,000. It was the only M3 E46 to feature a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre V8 engine borrowed from the race car version. This car became iconic as the hero car in the 2005 Need for Speed Most Wanted video game. But owning the M4 CS Edition VR46 is not only about the car but the experience that comes with it. Buyers get to visit Valentino Rossi at his VR46 Motor Ranch in Tavullia, Italy, where they can meet “The Doctor” and enjoy a barbecue.
