The race was unpredictable with changing conditions at best. However, Red Bull won again, and Ferrari is back where they belong. After a miserable performance at the Monaco GP, Max Verstappen clinched pole position once again at the June 2024 F1 Canada GP. The race was 70 laps long, and had two safety cars each triggered by accidents. Throughout the June 2024 F1 Canada GP, there were four changes to the lead, with Lando Norris in the #4 McLaren and George Russel in the #63 Mercedes finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. The June 2024 F1 Canada GP Race Highlights This win at the June 2024 F1 Canada GP puts Max Verstappen in a 56-point lead for the championship. George Russell in the number 63 Mercedes finished third from pole, and was particularly unhappy after the race, no thanks to colliding with Oscar Piastri.Russell was leading the June 2024 F1 Canada GP at the beginning, but Verstappen was hot on his heels. While Verstappen and Russell were battling it out in the wet, Lando Norris made a surprise overtake on the both of them, only to be knocked to third by an unlucky safety car deployment (because of Sargeant in the Williams crashing). Verstappen had by now reached ahead of Russell, and the race was restarted. Verstappen maintained a lead over the Mercedes out of the restart, and maintained the lead. The playing field now switched to slick tires from the intermediate ones they’d been running on so far, as the conditions at the June 2024 F1 Canada GP seemed to be improving. Lando Norris and George Russell continued to battle for second and third for the rest of the race, with Norris eventually ending up silver, and Russell with the bronze after some brusque moments with Teammate Hamilton in the #44 and Piastri in the second McLaren. Hamilton and Russell had several tense moments as they went nose to nose and wheel-to-wheel on a number of occasions (and corners). However the younger Briton driver was the one who emerged victorious in that particular battle, finishing third at the June 2024 F1 Canada GP. Hamilton took fourth, and Piastri fifth respectively. The June 2024 F1 Canada GP: Other Notable Moments The June 2024 F1 Canada GP shaped up to be the most interesting race of the 2024 F1 season so far. To begin with, Daniel Ricciardo in the number 3 RB logged his first points of the season, finishing eighth in the race behind the six-seven team finish of the Aston Martins piloted by Stroll and Alonso. Ricciardo’s mate Tsunoda in the #22 RB slid across the grass in the late stages, knocking him out of contention for any points this race. Tsunoda’s blunder gave Alpine’s Ocon and Gasly a double-points finish at the 2024 June Canada GP. The Haas team of Magnussen-Hulkenberg were the only two who started on blue tyres instead of green (wet vs. intermediate). However, their strategy did not pay off in the end, as they finished 12th and 11th respectively. Tsunoda’s mistake caused him to slip several positions down, finishing the race in 14th place between Bottas and Guanyu on either side in the 77 and 24 Kick Sauber’s respectively. The June 2024 F1 Canada GP: Crashes and Safety Cars Carlos Sainz in the #55 Ferrari and Alex Albon in the #23 Williams both had to retire after their cars collided during the 2024 F1 Canada GP. Then, LeClerc also had to retire his number 16 Ferrari from the 2024 Montreal GP after non-stop power issues with the car.As mentioned at the beginning, Sergeant in the Williams also crashed and DNF’d, but not before causing a safety car that cost the McLaren its lead, and letting Verstappen come out ahead. The fifth and last retiree of the race was Perez and his #11 Red Bull, who retired after damaging his rear diffuser after a spin-off of the wet track. As a result of these DNFs, only 15 drivers actually finished the race, 1/4th (25%!) of the competitors having to retire from the 2024 June Montreal GP. The 2024 June Canada GP: Conclusion When the three podium takers finished the race, Verstappen's lead increased from 31 to 56 points for the championship, thanks in large part to the Ferraris not scoring a single point in the race. Hamilton said that the 2024 F1 Canada GP was “one of the worst drives of hs career”, and Verstappen followed up with “I loved it — it was a lot of fun, and we need these kinds of races from time to time”.
