Lamborghini has announced it will pause its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) programmes at the end of this season. The decision affects both the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes. This marks the end of the Italian brand’s debut year in the competition. Lamborghini’s 2023 season was filled with notable milestones and challenges. The team achieved a top-10 finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, claimed a podium in LMGT3 at Spa-Francorchamps, and secured a Hyperpole spot at Fuji. However, the brand has decided not to compete in the 2025 WEC. This decision was confirmed when Lamborghini’s name was absent from the provisional entry list. A New Direction for RacingLamborghini is stepping away from the WEC after one season. A new rule requires Hypercar manufacturers to field two cars starting in 2025. The automaker says this change “no longer aligns” with its strategy. Even with this pause, Lamborghini will continue racing the SC63 LMDh prototype in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The break also lets Lamborghini focus on its new Temerario GT3. The car will undergo outdoor testing throughout 2025 and will be officially unveiled later. This pause gives Lamborghini time to refine the model for future success. In a statement, Lamborghini thanked the FIA and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest for their support during the 2024 season. It called this era a “golden age for sportscar racing” and highlighted the honor of competing. Adjusting to New RealitiesLamborghini has not shared its plans for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This year, it focused on endurance events, starting with the Sebring 12 Hours in March. What comes next for its IMSA campaign is still unknown. The situation is further complicated by the departure of Iron Lynx. The team, which managed Lamborghini’s IMSA efforts, has partnered with Mercedes-AMG for its 2025 LMGT3 programme in the WEC. This move leaves questions about who will lead Lamborghini’s future campaigns. The 2025 WEC entry list highlights several changes. Hypercar entries have dropped from 18 to 17, despite the arrival of Aston Martin with its Valkyrie AMR-LMH Hypercars. In LMGT3, Iron Lynx’s shift to Mercedes-AMG has replaced Lamborghini’s entries with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s. Meanwhile, competitors like Toyota, Ferrari, and Porsche have confirmed their full line-ups.
