Lotus is bringing back five of its most famous Formula 1 paint jobs. These designs will appear on the Lotus Emira, a lightweight sports car with 400 horsepower. The liveries won’t have the original sponsor logos, but they will still look stunning and full of racing history. The cars will be very exclusive. With a plan to reveal all five liveries on December 12, Lotus is making only 12 of each design, and they will only be sold in 12 European countries. The exact countries haven’t been revealed yet. These special editions will also introduce Lotus’s new Bespoke Program, which lets buyers create custom versions of their cars. Famous Liveries Through Lotus’s HistoryLotus has a long history of creating unforgettable Formula 1 liveries. In fact, the British automaker was only the second team in F1 history to use sponsorship on its cars. This move started a new era of racing car design. In 1968, Lotus introduced its first sponsored livery. The cars wore red, white, and gold colors from Gold Leaf, a brand of Imperial Tobacco. Then, in 1972, the team unveiled its famous black-and-gold John Player Special design. This look became a racing icon in the 1970s and returned in the 1980s to make its mark again. Lotus also created other eye-catching designs. The yellow-and-blue Camel livery stood out in the late 1980s, when Ayrton Senna drove for the team. In 1979, the team featured Martini’s red, white, and blue stripes. Before sponsorships, Lotus cars proudly wore British Racing Green with yellow accents, representing the UK’s racing colors.
