Maserati has announced a major leadership change in its motorsport division, with Maria Conti set to take over as the new head of motorsport activities. Effective October 1, 2024, Conti will replace Giovanni Sgro, reflecting a strategic shift for the iconic Italian luxury-performance brand. Conti, who previously served as Chief Communications Officer at Maserati, will be reporting directly to CEO Davide Grasso. As the first woman to ever lead Maserati's motorsport activities, Conti brings with her over two decades of experience in global automotive communications and lifestyle sectors. Driver Maximilian Günther secured two notable victories for Maserati during this period, with wins in Jakarta and Tokyo. Sgro also oversaw Maserati’s involvement in the GT2 European Series, where the MC20 GT2 made a strong debut. LP Racing’s MC20, piloted by Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini, achieved three wins across four rounds, signaling a strong presence for Maserati in the series moving forward. Sgro was also integral to the development of the Maserati MCXtrema, a 62-car limited edition track-only super sports car designed for non-professional racers. His work helped bolster Maserati’s track credentials, expanding its footprint in motorsports.
