Everyone has heard of the BMW M3 nameplate. For decades, it has delivered the trifecta of unmatched performance, handling, and everyday practicality that no other car can. And now, the BMW Group has just released the new 2025 BMW M3 — which promises to shatter expectations. Although the core essence of the M3 has been retained, the new 2025 BMW M3 takes things to a whole new level. Under the hood rests one of the best BMW engines to date, and new chassis tuning promises to take things to a whole other level. However, the new BMW M3 also has several aesthetic additions, including the powertrain. So, what happens when you add up all these changes? You get a car that will be at home at the Dubai Autodrome as it will be on your weekend grocery trip. The new BMW M3 is really the best driver's car released this year (so far). Let's see what makes it so special. The new BMW M3 Engine At the heart of the new BMW M3 is a powerplant that is sure to get any driving enthusiast's pulse racing. While BMW has yet to reveal all the specifics, we do know that this high-revving engine packs a serious punch. Now, the new BMW M3 will come standard with a manual transmission, but you can upgrade that to automatic. The manual will be a six-speed, and the auto will be the tried-and-true 8-sp. M Steptronic. Here are the gear ratios for each transmission on the new BMW M3, published by BMW themselves. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that promises to deliver the quintessential BMW M3 driving experience. The engine has a capacity of 2,993 cubic centimeters, and the cylinders have a bore of 84.0 mm. Also, the engine has a stroke of 90.0 mm and a compression ratio of 9.3: 1. The new BMW M3 engine will make 473 hp (manual) and the new BMW M3 Competition will make 503 hp (automatic). Both of those horsepower figures were at the optimal redline of 6,250 RPM. And BMW has made advancements in turbocharging and engine efficiency. With those, you can expect this powerplant to deliver smooth, linear thrust with minimal turbo lag. What are those advancements? We're glad you asked — scroll down to the new BMW M3 technology section to learn more. And now, talking about other upgrades to the new BMW M3 powertrain. The crankcase has been redesigned to be sleeve-free, and features closed-deck construction. Also, the crankshaft has also been re-engineered to be even lighter, out of forged metals. The cylinder cores in the new BMW M3 engine are 3-D printed, and have a sprayed iron coating on them for durability. This 3-D printed cylinder core is specific to the M-series models in BMW's lineup. Because the cores are 3-D printed, the coolant ducts can be routed in a way that would be impossible with traditional metal casting. Coming back to the new BMW M3 engine. You might be surprised to learn that it is actually the base on which the engine for the BMW M4 GT3 is based. Anyway, let's put the engine back in the new BMW M3. There, it has a peak torque of 479 lb-ft. And, as for the name of the new BMW M3 engine, it's called the "S58B30T0". A mouthful to be sure, but with the performance it delivers, BMW can name it whatever they want. And speaking of the new BMW M3 performance, there's lot's to talk about. A green 2025 BMW M3 racing down an open road. The new BMW M3 Performance Right, getting straight to the point. The new 2025 BMW M3 improves on her predecessor in a couple of subtle but key areas. First up, the new BMW M3 acceleration. The base version of the new BMW M3 0-60 time is 4.1 seconds. The new BMW M3 competition 0-60 time is 3.8 seconds. Each has a top speed of 155 mph. The most powerful model will have BMW's M xDrive that glues the car to the road. The M xDrive system was designed to give you optimal traction in every situation that you could think of. The tuning setup in the new BMW M3 is biased towards the rear wheels, and has a variable active differential. When the driver switches off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), they get the option to turn the new BMW M3 into a 2WD car. Also, the new BMW M3 has a steering ratio of 14.6:1, 275/ 35 tires (front) and 285/30 tires (rear). Both variants (the new BMW M3 and the new BMW M3 competition) have the same braking setup. This comprises a floating caliper system at the rear (single-piston) and a fixed caliper at the front (six-piston). Note that all variants of the new 2025 BMW M3 are electronically limited to 155 mph as their top speed. However, if you spec your car with the M Drivers Package, the top speed increases to 180 mph. A side-on view of a new 2025 BMW M3, showing the latest design features. The new BMW M3 design As it was with the first M3 released all the way back in '86, so it is today. The new BMW M3 design will get attention wherever it goes. Because the car is truly a master of all trades, you can now get optional forged M alloy wheels. These are finished in a bright silver, with a style name is 825M, and would add that sophisticated-yet-performant look to the car. The new BMW M3 design also features completely redesigned headlights. These join both high and low beams into a single light module. Each light module also features vertical LED light strips. These work as turn indicators, and double up as daytime running lights; a subtle change to the new BMW M3 design. Also, you can get lights with dark inside accents (called "M Shadowline") as an optional extra. The lights add new accents to the front of the new BMW M3 — but we'll be honest: the design is not for everyone. It's a strictly love-it-or-hate-it design, with no in-between. The last update to the exterior design is the slightly more flared haunches on the new BMW M3. They make the car just a little bit more aggressive-looking than it already was. And with the exterior done, let's move on to the new BMW M3 interior. The interior of the new 2025 BMW M3. The new BMW M3 interior You step into your new BMW M3 (or M3 Competition if you were feeling flush). The first thing that will greet you is the redesigned tri-spoke sports steering wheel. The steering wheel is made of leather, has a whole boatload of multifunction buttons, and also sports a racing red marker at the top of the wheel. The steering wheel (which has a ratio of 14.6:1) is also now flat-bottomed for a sportier look. You can also opt for an Alcantara version of the steering wheel, either as its own option, or as part of the M Carbon package. Your accents in the cup holders, gauge clusters, and control panel come standard in a trim called "Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite". Your options for speccing these accents now include M Carbon Fiber and M Fine Brushed Aluminum. You can also now get the optional M Sensatec dashboard. You will also get the curved iDrive display that is available for all 2024 and newer BMW models. The iDrive system is also now based on BMW OS 8.5, the latest version of the OS. Your iDrive display is made up of two screens. The first is a 14.9-inch control display and the second is a 12.3-inch infotec display. The control display can now also display extra figures, specific to M-performance. To upgrade the interior, you could get the optional BMW HUD (Head-up Display). The HUD has a multicolor tachymeter, and can also project your M-View onto the windscreen. It also has shift indicator projections to help you better your lap times. The HUD would genuinely make the new BMW M3 interior feel like the cockpit of a fighter jet, and the new BMW M3 engine would make the car drive like one. That was a lot of talk about the new BMW M3 technology, so let's build from there. Front and Center: The new iDrive display of the 2025 BMW M3 The new BMW M3 technology With the new 2025 BMW M3, you get BMW's M-TwinPower Turbo technology. It features two mono-scroll turbos, with each turbo handling the supply to 3 out of the six cylinders. The turbo setup in the new BMW M3 engine uses HPI (High Precision Injection) to absolutely atomize the fuel. The HPI system can go up to a maximum pressure of 350 bar, which gives us (marginally) better engine response times. Those marginal response times will be a life-and-death difference on the track though, but won't matter so much in daily driving. That is quite impressive for a car that is fuel-efficient (when the driver wants it to be). The car also features an indirect intercooler that is fed by a low-temp circuit, which in turn has compressors that were designed bespoke for the new BMW M3. And now, the last question that you have will definitely be, "What's the damage"? Well, let's find out about the new BMW M3 price. A car that will thrill you. The new BMW M3 price and options The standard brake package is called the "M Compound", and can be upgraded to the "M Carbon" package. The M Carbon package is designed for owners who want to take their new 2025 BMW M3 to the track. It features M Carbon Ceramic brakes, M Carbon bucket seats (driver and passenger), and the M Drive Professional system. In addition to all that, the M Carbon upgrade nets you the BMW M Driver's package, an Alcantara steering wheel, and lots of interior carbon fiber options. In addition to the M Carbon upgrade, you also have the option to choose the M Carbon Exterior package. This brings you CFRP wing mirror caps and rear diffuser. In addition to that, you get inlays for that rear diffuser as well as for the front air intakes. It gives the car a very "track monster" look. In BMW's own words, the carbon packages "enhance the race-car-for-the-street" character of the new BMW M3. And if you're getting the exterior carbon upgrade, the M-Shadowline lights would go great on the new BMW M3 and new BMW M3 Competition. The 2025 BMW M3 will start at $76,000. The new 2025 BMW M3 Competition will push that up to $80,200. And if you choose to spec your new BMW M3 Competition with the M xDrive upgrade, your base price will be $85,300. The new BMW M3: Conclusion The new 2025 BMW M3 represents the latest chapter in a storied legacy of high-performance sports sedans that have captivated driving enthusiasts for decades. From its potent engine and blistering acceleration to its athletic handling and striking design, this latest M3 promises to deliver an unparalleled driving experience. While its starting price may put it out of reach for some buyers, the new M3 is sure to be a hit among those who prioritize performance, luxury, and cutting-edge technology. After all, this is a car that has been meticulously engineered to thrill, whether you're carving up a winding backroad or attacking the apex at your local track day. Now, granted, the updates were mostly minor, and the performance figures haven't blown the old M3 out of the running. However, with its iconic nameplate, impressive specifications, and no-compromises approach to performance and luxury, the new BMW M3 is cause for celebration. Source: BMW Pressclub
