MOLSHEIM, France (Reuters) - Bugatti has begun pulling back the curtain on its hugely anticipated new Bugatti V16 car, the successor to the record-breaking Chiron. In an event released this week, CEO Mate Rimac shared key technical details about the new Bugatti V16 car's revolutionary powertrain. While the iconic Chiron and Veyron models were powered by a quad-turbocharged W16 engine, the new Bugatti V16 car will feature a naturally-aspirated V16 at its core. According to Rimac, ditching turbochargers makes the new V16 as "emotional" as possible while staying true to Bugatti's performance heritage. However, the new Bugatti V16 car won't rely solely on engine power. It will incorporate a cutting-edge hybrid system with three electric motors - two at the front and one at the rear - fed by a 25kWh battery pack. Rimac says this electric assistance enables the new Bugatti V16 car's blistering performance capabilities without turbochargers. "The electric powertrain is actually an enabler for such an emotional engine," Rimac explained about the new Bugatti V16 car's complex hybrid setup. "Without it, we wouldn't have this performance." While Mate didn't reveal specifics, the new Bugatti V16 car is expected to produce well over 1,600 horsepower combined from its combustion and electric motors. This should allow for heroic acceleration, possibly cracking 60mph in under 2 seconds. As for top speed, the new Bugatti V16 car could even eclipse the Chiron's 304mph record if gearing and aerodynamics allow it to take full advantage of the prodigious power output. Rimac assured the new Bugatti V16 car will provide a "usable electric range" for emissions-free driving when needed as well. Developing the new Bugatti V16 car's advanced powertrain from scratch was an immense undertaking for the Rimac team. Some Volkswagen Group executives had pushed for simply rebodying the all-electric Rimac Nevera, given the company's expertise with EVs. But Rimac insisted the new Bugatti V16 car had to offer something more visceral and special to live up to the brand's storied heritage. With the hybrid V16 powertrain centerpiece now revealed, all eyes are on the new Bugatti V16 car's full debut set for June 20th. With cutting-edge electrification augmenting the emotional appeal of a thundering V16 engine crafted in Bugatti's own tradition, the new Bugatti V16 car promises to push the limits of performance and desirability for the ultra-wealthy hypercar set. All will be revealed in just days about this wildly potent new Bugatti V16 car. Source: YouTube, Bugatti
