Nissan is commemorating a milestone that has shaped its legacy on both racetracks and roads. On Tuesday, the automaker marked the 40th anniversary of its revered Nismo performance division—short for Nissan Motorsports—which has been pushing the boundaries of speed and engineering since its official founding on September 17, 1984. For four decades, Nismo has been the driving force behind Nissan's motorsports ventures, the creation of performance-enhancing parts, and the engineering of exhilarating road cars. To honor the rich history of this legendary division, Nissan has launched a special exhibition at its global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. Iconic NISMO legends on display at Yokohama headquartersTo mark NISMO’s 40th anniversary, Nissan is pulling out all the stops with a jaw-dropping exhibition at its Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama, Japan. Visitors are treated to a rare collection of NISMO’s most iconic machines, both from the track and the street. Front and center is the revered Nissan R390 GT1, which secured Nissan’s best-ever finish at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, crossing the line in an impressive third place. Fans of Japanese motorsport will also get the opportunity to see the Calsonic Skyline GT-R Group A, a true legend of the Japan Touring Car Championship (JTCC). Also on display is a selection of ultra-rare NISMO road cars, including the famed NISMO 400R and the limited-edition NISMO 270R. Alongside these classics are NISMO’s latest innovations from its current domestic lineup, such as the sleek Ariya NISMO, the stylish AURA NISMO, and the high-performance FAIRLADY Z NISMO. This exclusive exhibition runs through October 15, 2024. NISMO drives toward a thrilling future and global expansionOn the occasion, the president of Nissan Motorsports and head of Nissan's global motorsports business unit Takao Katagiri expressed gratitude to fans and customers who have supported NISMO since its inception in 1984. “We would like to thank everyone who has supported NISMO since 1984,” said Katagiri, “and we look forward to delivering speed, confidence, and exhilaration for decades to come. Our longstanding ethos of track to road continues with our Super GT and Formula E factory racing programs.” Looking ahead, Katagiri emphasized the brand's commitment to pushing boundaries both on and off the racetrack. “Our aim is to deliver exhilaration for fans at the circuit and embed the learnings from the racetrack into products customers can buy. Our long-term goal is to progressively expand our business globally, delivering more exciting NISMO models to customers around the world.” The celebration doesn’t end here.
