The Valkyrie must be in an active oversteer slide, having exceeded specific yaw rate and body slip angle thresholds, in other words, properly sideways. The driver must be countersteering hard enough that the ESP intervenes, braking the front inside wheel while pressure builds on the front outside circuit. At the same time, the driver must be applying throttle either during or immediately after braking, prompting the ESP to intervene again, this time on the rear inside wheel, building further pressure there too. Finally, with both circuits already pre-filled from these ESP interventions, the driver must apply the brake pedal forcefully at that exact moment. Brake fluid then fails to fully return to the reservoir when the pedal is released. Pressure builds beyond what it should. The brakes begin to drag, heat climbs, and if conditions are severe enough, the resin in the carbon-fibre rear brake cooling duct can reach its ignition point. It is, by any measure, one of the most specific failure sequences ever written into a vehicle recall. It requires a skilled driver, deliberately pushing a track-prepared hypercar to its limit, with every electronic system engaged in exactly the wrong sequence at exactly the wrong moment. How Aston Martin Got Here, and What Happens Next The story behind this recall stretches back further than the public announcement suggests. Aston Martin first encountered the issue during a Valkyrie prototype test in November 2022, when a small fire broke out on the rear quarter panel during traction-control testing. The automaker began working with its brake supplier, Alcon, almost immediately. It took until February 2025 to confirm the root cause, with a fix designed the following month. New components began rolling out to the fleet in September 2025.
