The Huayra R: A Track-Only Masterpiece There’s no denying the term R at Pagani Automobili is a special marque. It is used for the company's de-restricted, hardcore, raucous and raw track-only variants of their current outgoing hypercars. The first was the much loved and much loud Zonda R, the fastest car around the Nürburgring back in 2010 with a time of 6:47. And almost a decade later, Pagani announced the Huayra R in 2021. This followed the same recipe as the Zonda R. A truly lightweight, hardcore, track-only monster built to demolish the world’s racetracks. A car designed with no restrictions that would qualify it for racing all in the pursuit of speed. The R is constructed of a lightweight carbon-titanium monocoque nicknamed carbo-Tanium that results in an extremely light 1,050kg and makes the entire car both rigid and agile. Alongside this, the interior is minimalist with Matte carbon fibre, dark grey Alcantara, and anodized matte black aluminium everywhere. This combined with its enormous carbon ceramic brakes and 6-speed sequential gearbox make it dart through corners with the agility of a housefly. Unlike most Huayras which feature a twin-turbo V12, the R uses a bespoke 6.0L Naturally Aspirated V12 which develops a stratospheric 838 horsepower and 556 lb-ft of torque. This gives it an impressive 798 horsepower per tonne, which results in an impressive 0-62 time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 217mph. All the while your ears bleed from the sound of that V12 symphony and your mind boggles at the sheer speed of this monster. It makes the ordinary Huayra look tame and un-special, so it’s no surprise that today it’s worth over $3,000,000.And today, should you enter RM Sotheby’s auction, one can indeed be yours.
