There are certain sounds in this world that can make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. A lion's roar. Thunder rolling across distant mountains. And a naturally aspirated Ferrari V12 with a straight-pipe exhaust at 8,500 rpm.If you've ever had the pleasure of hearing a Ferrari V12 at full chat, you'll know it's an experience that borders on the religious. Now imagine that glorious noise, but louder, crisper, and even more spine-tingling. That's what happens when you bolt a Novitec exhaust system to a Ferrari 812 GTS. Biesse Racing in Bergamo, Italy, has recently done exactly that, fitting a full Novitec catless exhaust system to an 812 GTS before strapping it to a dyno to see what happens when you let this particular bull loose in the Italian china shop.The results are, frankly, ridiculous. The stock 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 in the 812 GTS is already a masterpiece, producing 800 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and 530 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm. These are numbers that would have qualified as hypercar territory just a decade ago, coming from an engine with no turbos, no superchargers, and certainly no electrical assistance.With the Novitec system fitted, those figures jump to 840 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque, with around 744 horsepower making it to the wheels. That's an increase of 40 horsepower and 20 lb-ft just from letting the engine breathe more freely – proof, if any were needed, that Ferrari's engineers still leave some performance on the table to meet emissions regulations. But the numbers only tell half the story. What the dyno charts can't convey is the sound. Removing the catalytic converters from a V12 Ferrari is the automotive equivalent of removing a muzzle from a wolf. What was already loud becomes deafening; what was already musical becomes operatic.In the video shared by Biesse Racing, the 812 GTS sounds like a Formula 1 car from the V12 era – a high-pitched, mechanical wail that builds in intensity as the revs climb, before reaching a crescendo at the 8,500 rpm redline that could shatter wineglasses at fifty paces.It's worth noting that removing catalytic converters makes this exhaust system strictly for off-road use in most countries. It's the sort of modification that will have environmentalists reaching for their pitchforks and local noise ordinance officers reaching for their citation books. But for those moments when you find yourself on a deserted mountain road or, better yet, a racetrack, the Novitec exhaust transforms what is already a special car into something truly extraordinary. The 812 GTS is, of course, the convertible version of the 812 Superfast, and arguably the best way to enjoy that V12 symphony. With the roof down and the Novitec exhaust fitted, it must be like sitting in the front row at La Scala during a particularly enthusiastic performance – except the orchestra is 12 cylinders and 6.5 liters of Italian engineering excellence.For the Ferrari owner who already has everything, a Novitec exhaust system might just be the perfect upgrade. More power, more noise, and a guaranteed way to ensure that everyone within a five-mile radius knows you've arrived. It's excessive, it's unnecessary, and it's absolutely glorious.
